How do you crimp black hair with heat?
1- Start with clean, dry hair.
If your hair is wet or even slightly damp, the crimping iron will not work as well.
2. Spray your hair with a heat protectant
Lightly spray your hair with a heat protectant to prevent the crimp iron from damaging your hair.

Why it’s one of our favorites heat protectants for black hair: This Mizani heat screen protects your coils plus smells like pink grapefruit and mandarin blend.
3 – Section off your hair into small subsections.
The smaller the subsection, the more defined your crimps will be.
4 – Crimp your hair
Place the crimp iron at the root of the hair subsection and then slowly slide the crimping iron down the length of the hair subsection.
The Waver Crimping iron
Why we like it: This isn’t some cheap crimp iron that will go out in a few months or burn your hair due to cheap plating. This crimp iron counteracts frizz, flyaways, static & damage while you style for softer, smoother, shinier hair that appears healthier. INH’s pro-grade hair care hair waver has a ceramic tourmaline glaze to protect & neutralize dry, damaged hair and seal moisture into hair follicles.
5. Repeat
Repeat steps 3 and 4 until all of your hair is crimped.

How do you crimp black hair without a crimping iron?
Did you know you can crimp hair without a crimping iron? Did you know you can even crimp your hair without heat? While there is a learning curve, and it does take longer, it’s possible using wave formers.
Wave formers are devices that can be used to create both curls and waves in your hair. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, so you can choose the one that best suits your hair type and the look you’re going for.
To use a wave former, start by wetting your hair and applying a curl-enhancing product if desired. Then, take a small section of hair and wrap it inside of the wave former.
Repeat this process until all of your hair is secured in the wave formers. Once you’re done, allow the hair to dry inside, or you can sit under a blow dryer.
Once the hair is dry, you simply remove the wave former by sliding it off to reveal your crimps.

How do you keep your hair crimped?
It’s important to keep your hair crimped if you want to maintain that perfect, voluminous look.
Here are a few tips on how to do just that:
1. Before crimping your hair, start with clean hair
If you crimp dirty hair, your crimps won’t last as long as the dirt and oil buildup on your hair will weigh your crimps down and may even make your crimps frizzy.
2. Use a good quality hairspray or spritz.
A high-quality hairspray will help keep your hair in place and prevent the crimps from falling out.

3. Use a good crimp iron
A good crimp iron will allow you to crimp your hair easier and quicker. However, be sure to use a heat protectant! Always use a heat protectant prior to applying direct heat to your head!

4. Avoid brushing your hair too much.
Brushing your crimps out gives your hair a natural wavy look. However, this can loosen the crimps and make them less defined which means the crimps will fall faster.
5. Touch up your crimps as needed.
If you notice any areas that have fallen out, simply re-crimp them with a curling iron or flat iron.
Following these tips will help you keep your hair looking its best all day long!
Crimped hairstyles are back and better than ever. Whether you have natural black hair or relaxed hair, there is a crimped style that will look great on you.
